Did you know This blog actually started off as a baking and confectionary business? Well failed one anyway!
The last couple years have been incredibly rough for me, family dramas, work dramas, health dramas, you name it. It all started with a sudden deterioration of my health and the development of migraines, since having a blood virus a few years back I have suffered migraines and light sensitivity. Gradually these migraines started to get incredibly painful, like, head in hands, blacking out painful, I was having vision black outs, it was a scary time. battling these migraines and working in a very stressful environment, as well as other personal pressures and stresses I fell into a very deep, dark hole of depression. I didn't want to live anymore, I felt like an inconvenience to everyone around me, I didn't seek help and it got worse. I had a full blown mental breakdown, I snapped, I took myself of to see my doctor who was trying to find the cause of the migraines, trying different medications. I was signed off work for 8 weeks as I was so unstable, I'd like to say I was supported through this time but unfortunately I wasn't, an illness has to be visible to be real right??!
I suppose I should tell you what tipped me over? A man. God it's so pathetic but heartbreak sent me over the edge. In a previous post I told you about my most recent experience with plenty of fish, click here to read it but pof is where my next story starts.
August 2015, No names mentioned, not that he knows this blog exists! I met an attractive, like minded guy, our first date ended up being rescheduled twice! (First sign?) I got delayed in Legoland and then the next day he was too hung over. Eventually we went for dinner and we chatted the entire evening and he then took me home, our second date was a picnic in Eynsford. Castle ruins, rivers, sunshine and spectacular views, I couldn't ask for a more romantic day. We spent a good deal of the day sitting on top of a hill chatting away, it was a regret for us both that we did not share our first kiss there, our first kiss was shared on our third date in the cinema.
We we went on to have a couple weeks of dating bliss, it soon started to go down hill when I wanted to enter a relationship but he didn't, when I pressed for a reason his response was to jump into another girls bed. This is when this story should finish, but it doesn't. Stupid me.
Our "relationship" became incredibly rocky, every time I walked away he managed to pull me back in, I think I loved him, as just the thought of him now still makes my heart twitch! Towards the end of "us" after walking away once again he contacted me again, he missed me, he wants me, he wanted to make up for his behaviour. He had remembered that I love Brighton, it is my favourite place in the UK to visit so he picked me up 2 days later after work and off we went for a "romantic" weekend away to Brighton. Of course the weekend didn't get off to the best start, we ended up in a car accident as soon as we arrived in Brighton, a drunken man had walked out in front of the car in front of us and despite hitting the breaks we still went in to the back of the car. Fortunately it wasn't serious, think I was the only one who walked away with an injury, I had spilt coffee all over myself ...and the car, I had also cut my knee where my seat belt had yanked me back. A week later I actually ended up being carted away in an Ambulance, where my chest was crushed by the seat belt an infection had formed in the walls and cartilage of my chest, I was bed bound for a week.
Back to Brighton, so the first night was spent trying to get the car back into shape, and listening to him lie to his insurance about being alone in the car. Again stupid me. The rest of the weekend was spent with him watching some league of legends tournament on not just his phone but mine as well, I did manage to get some attention from him in the arcades where he worked incredibly hard to get me a tiny gold notebook key ring from a 2p machine. The sex was on point, think over the time we were together, the sex was always very good, we laid in bed on our last night there and he, for the first time, really opened up to me, this guy was not a hearts and flowers guy, getting him to talk about his feelings was as hard as juicing a stone, impossible. So there I am, head on his chest, smiling ear to ear with happiness, he was actually opening up about how he felt and then it got super weird, he started to talk about babies and how he would love to be a single dad. What. The. Fuck. so our romantic weekend was just weird from beginning to finish, but I was obsessed with him, I wish I could explain it but I can't.
so things were OK for another week until one morning, out of the blue his phone was set to 'contents hidden'. Filled with wonder and curiosity I headed over to his computer where Facebook was logged in, my heart shattered, he was talking to a number of girls he had met on pof, even as recent as the day after we got back from Brighton, arranging to meet up with her. Keeping my cool I waited for him to get out of the shower where I casually asked if there were other girls, "no, why would you ask that?" He looked me in the eyes and he lied to me, I didn't have time to go nuclear on him so I asked "can I see you tonight?" He told me He'd like that and out he ran to work.
That night, was our last night "dating", I stayed the night, I played games, asked little questions, I wanted him to tell me how he felt about me, the response i got "oh go away", I went nuclear, I have never shouted and screamed at a guy than I did at him, his excuse "she's a Trollop, I wasn't actually going to see her", he laughed at me, he just didn't care that I was falling to pieces in front of him. I left and got the train home, I cried all the way. It was a couple weeks after that I broke down.
He has since told me he was depressed, and apologised for everything, he has since moved on and has even moved the new girl in, that decision was made after he cheated on her with me, knowing him his thinking is if she lives here, I can't cheat! Dick.
So back to why I started blogging! I was severely depressed, under going counselling, I developed a passion for baking. My cakes and sweets are popular amongst friends and family and it was suggested I start my own business! I took a online course for a diploma in food safety and hygiene and Abigail's Treats was born, explains the email right?!
orders started to come in, and I wasn't prepared, business wise and mentally, I was just so drained as I was still working full time as well. Eventually it became all too much, so I stopped taking orders, at this point I had actually gained a following on Instagram so I was at odds at what I was going to do with that account, website and email until I read an article in a magazine in the canteen at work about a blogger who had overcome severe anxiety by blogging so decision made, I typed my first post about migraines and here I am! It has been the best decision I have had made. I have met so many wonderful people, it has brought me closer to my future roomie GlamGlitzGloss.
Tanya has been blogging for over 6 years so she keeps me in the loop of what's the blogging dos and don'ts, who's who and which events to look out for, I have so much love for her, she came back into my life after growing apart when I really needed a friend, she's the force of nature I needed to get my arse back on track in life.
So there you have it, i don't blog "for the free stuff" I don't blog "because of others". I am fully aware I am not the greatest of writers but I blog to help with my depression (which I am doing very very well, have been off the anti-depressants for two months now!) everything else, the followers, the gifts, working with brands it's just the cherry on top of an already awesome sundae. I have no expectations from this blog, it's purpose is not to make money, it's purpose is for me and those who wish to read my ramblings!
I don't know about you but I love a good pamper day and on Saturday night I was certainly pampered and Spoilt during my visit to Supercuts in bluewater for their #squadgoals event. What is it about you ask?
supercuts are currently running a #squadgoals competition where you upload a picture of you and your squad! The winning squad will be whisked off to TIGI’s iconic studio in Battersea, London for an A-list hair and beauty makeover from Supercuts’ style team, an exclusive studio photoshoot, a goody bag of TIGI products to maintain their fresh hairstyle, and an overnight stay in the capital city! I have certainly entered so make sure you do! How? All you have to do is upload your photo to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, tag @supercutsuk and use the tag #squadgoals
I didn't have to wait long until a hair dresser, also a Charlotte!, had her hands in my hair asking if I like my hair long or short, at this point I was confused....when I read I would be getting a hair treatment I immediately thought a conditioning type treatment but no I was getting the whole experience, I was getting my hair cut! I was so pleased with this as my hair has been so neglected it was seriously due a cut so I asked to have all the dead ends trimmed off and just a general tidy up, she did a brilliant job, even pointed out that my parting was on the wrong side, so she styled my hair with the new parting which to be honest I'm still not use to! But I love it.
Once we all had our treatsments the regional manager (which I regret I didn't catch her name, I feel awful!) gave us a goody bag each and we took our squad photos in front of the store, and inside the store showing of our new looks! I used this opportunity to also take some photos of the supercuts ladies so you guys know who to look for when you visit the Supercuts in bluewater. In my goodie bag I received Tigi's Bedhead fully loaded shampoo and conditioner which added so much volume to my flat, fine hair. The oil reflections set from wells, which I'm yet to try and CND solar oil to condition nails and cuticles, I used it on the bus journey home! Love it!
Remember to submit your #squadgoal photos!
On September the 3rd I attended my second bloggers event! The bloggers festival is organised by the stunning Scarlett who at the age of 22 has made her name known by not just her events but her incredible blog and can be spotted modelling for the beautiful designer Jodie Bell. It was a pleasure to meet her and I look forward to attending future Scarlett events.
It's not something I have discussed on here yet but I suffer from social anxiety, so the thought of going to events alone leave me incredibly anxious but I'm very lucky to have Tanya as a friend and fellow blogger as knowing she is there calms me a little! So knowing that someone I know will be already there is great but she also introduced me to two gorgeous and immensely kind ladies, Ana and Cat. They immediately made me feel comfortable and kept me smiling throughout the day.
At the moment I'm currently without my phone, I have a Samsung Galaxy s6 edge but it kept over heating so it had to be sent away for repairs, my phone is everything my diary, camera, my life!. Luckily I knew Tanya would have her camera so when I arrived early I had a quick dart around the tables saying quick hello's to the brands and taking pictures of the tables, Tanya kindly forwarded these images to me so I could use them for this post!
This first two brands were health related, Lipivir is the first table you see when walking in, Lipivir is a medicated gel designed to tackle cold sores, something I actually don't suffer so I am unable to comment on its effectiveness! But i have kept it in my make up bag for any future needs!
Next along we found Alflorex, now this was a company I wanted to talk to as two days previous to the event I had to take time of work sick with food poisoning and a stomach bug. Alflorex is a daily probiotic that helps those who suffer with IBS, the gentleman I spoke explained everything in a way I understood, no scientific jargon, to the point and was full of facts, I took away a months supply and I look forward to benefitting from it. Visit Alflorex here.
Next up is Oopsie! A food brand that jars up the perfect cake ingredients! Fruit! On display the had a variety of their fruit jars, and a company after my own heart had cherry and Christmas cake to sample! As a baker I was very pleased to meet the ladies from Oopsie! The cherry and ginger jars I got in my goodie bag have already been put to use in my baking! Even got a cheeky Christmas cake recipe card as that's one thing I haven't made yet!
After getting my fill of cake next up was a new and GENIUS subscription Service called friction free shaving, from £3 a month these lovely people will send you your months shaving needs direct to your door step, no more spending a fortune on fancy razors! I was given the frankie that also had a very clever spin on Craig David in the box. I really enjoyed speaking to the guys from ffs and I look forward to trying their new shaving cream! Certainly a company for the busy woman constantly on the move!
For some unknown reason I didn't get the opportunity to speak to the next brand. David Hampton, a fine leather goods company, but by sounds I missed out on a card holder! Not the end of the world but for life of me can't work out why I didn't get to speak to them but their products look incredibly smart!
Exucviance, a skin care company that uses science to create their products. The first question I was asked was what my skin type was, I explained about my Acne and the poor woman's face dropped! Out of the products they had brought with them none where really suitable for acne! I understood as I'm quite particular about the products I use on my skin, I like to stick with what I know works best for me, but none the less I was still give a gentle face wash which I have used a couple times! And the one thing I will say is that a little goes a long way!
Another familiar brand. Deborah Mitchell's Heaven skin care. The last time I met the team from Heaven skin care, I was given a 10 day kit to "transform" my acne, but unfortunately it did not work and left my skin sore! Now I'm not knocking the brand as some have a great experience with their products, I just happen to have skin that's not suitable!
Bodychef! A fresh new way of dieting, a subscription service that prepares your meals and portions and delivers it directly to you. I was kindly given a brownie! Personally this isn't a service I would use as I enjoy buying and preparing my own food but certainly a service for the busy individual.
7th Heaven face masks. I was fortunate enough to attend 7th heavens 30th anniversary event, so it was lovely to see them again and restock my face masks! The charcoal mask and Dead Sea masks are my personal favourites, and being all natural and vegan products they are kind to my acne!
These guys were busy all day, when it was next on my list it was incredibly busy so I thought I'll skip and come back when it's quieter but I was stopped by the guy who came up with social super store, annoyingly his name has escaped me! So apologies! But he kindly took the time to explain to me what social super store was and got me signed up with the help of his friends!
Next up is Varta! Am electrical company, I recognise them as we have an entire draw full of Varta batteries at work! In return for signing up to become a Varta VIP I received a portable phone charger! Though secretly I wanted a minions product from their kids range!
If you don't know who Beverly Hills Formula is you have clearly haven't the worry of how to keep your teeth white! A dental care brand that is well known, they were at the festival to promote their new whitening range with charcoal and gold! They were giving away goodies so I was fortunate to receive two full sized toothpastes, 4 miniatures and a new toothbrush! I had briefly spoken to the ladies at Beverly Hills before the event started so I was kindly given a choice of what toothpaste I wanted! I selected the black sensitive, and after the first use I certainly noticed the difference! I want to go a get the black mouth wash as well, Definitely worth a buy!!
Natural world Hair products won my heart when I received the chia seed hair oil at the bigbloggersexpo so meeting the ladies was great, They are kindly sending me the whole chia seed range to review! So keep an eye out for that post!
Go Send is an American company that reduces that over seas shopping price tag! Definitely worth a look at if you love American products but not the price tag of shipping them over!
Last and not least PNY tech. These guys were the life savers with their charging station and beautiful rose gold power banks! Our little group photo won their competition, the ladies proudly claimed their prizes but I missed out on mine! But no biggie as it was an apple charger and I'm a Samsung lady!
That's it....I hope I've not missed any brands out but I had a fantastic day and was a major bag lady on my way home! I had a belly full of sweets and bucks fizz I really enjoyed myself and meeting so many new faces. A big thank you to Scarlett and I hope we get to cross paths again at future events!
